Communication

Communication starts from birth.

Baby learns to make eye contact, copy sounds, respond to facial expressions and interact with your gestures. Time with baby can be intentional teaching and learning time to stimulate their brains and connect with them.

Let us show you simple activities to help your baby develop communication skills, eye-hand coordination, and build their understanding of the world around them.

Read

1000 books by Kindergarten

Read to them every day.

Be dramatic, change your voice

Discuss the words and pictures

Notice rhyme, funny words

Show how books work - right side up, front to back, left to right

Write

Play with pencils, crayons, markers

Start around 12 months

Show how to hold them

Demonstrate simple shapes and lines

Write cards, notes, menus, labels

Write underneath their drawings

Talk

Talk all the time

Explain, describe, notice, wonder

Avoid baby talk

Teach new words every day

Listen and respond when they speak

Teach poems, songs and rhymes

Play word listening games

Playtime is learning time

Be intentional with your words, your actions and your responses.
Find opportunities in everyday activities to build your child’s language, thinking and communication skills.

For example, when playing with a ball you can teach vocabulary such a ball, soft, round, roll, bounce, hit, throw, catch, etc.

You can teach tracking and eye-hand coordination rolling the ball close and further away, bouncing against the wall, or throwing it low and high.

You can develop conversation skills by asking questions and encouraging a response, giving choices, and teaching please and thank you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule my appointment?
Fill out the form above and we will book a time for your appointment.

How often do we meet?
You can select a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly coaching package. If you are unsure, you could try just a one-off meeting with Margaret.

Can you help me teach my child to read?
Sure! There are a lot of strategies for teaching little one's to read. Depending on your child's age and stage of development, we can start them on the road to reading. Many children learn to read before they start formal schooling.

Can we teach my child to write?
Of course! Like with reading we can gauge your child's readiness and guide them along the path to forming letters, writing words and writing sentences.

Can you come to my home?
Most people prefer a virtual coaching session at a scheduled day and time each week. However, if you prefer in person support, ask Margaret how we could make this happen.

Can I get a refund?
If you are dissatisfied with your coaching, reach out to us to see if your purchase is eligible for a refund.

Who is Margaret?

Margaret Bertram is an Australian literacy and reading specialist now living in Arizona. Over Margaret's 40 year career in education she developed an expertise in how reading and writing skills develop in young children. With many years of research she discovered that the years
before a child gets to school are pivotal to laying the foundations of literacy development. Children who come to school unready to learn to read, often never learn to read or struggle with reading their whole lives.

Let Margaret help you become a superhero in your child's life by giving them a strong literacy foundation.

I couldn't have found a better means of teaching our son to read.

Margaret is amazing. The knowledge, the care, the attention to detail truly makes me feel like I couldn’t have found a better means of teaching my son how to read. We are continuing on with her now with our youngest. Thank you for everything.

She is now well ahead of the class in reading, writing and comprehension.

Margaret has spent years with my 5 year old daughter, getting her ready to read. She is now well ahead of the rest of her class in reading, writing and comprehension.

Reach out to her. You won't regret it.
